Subsequently, he held many positions including Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Law and Order, Deputy Controller of the Department of Immigration and Emigration, Deputy Ambassador to the Embassy of Abu Dhabi, Advisor to the Sri Lanka Institute of Development Administration, Additional District Secretary of Colombo, Senior Assistant Secretary to Parliament, Municipal Secretary of the Colombo Municipal Council, Municipal Commissioner of the Dehiwala Mount Lavinia Municipal Council, Additional Director General of the Department of Public Enterprises, Additional Secretary (Administration) to the State Ministry of Fertilizers, Additional Secretary (Development) to the Ministry of Investment Promotion, etc.

Before assuming duties as the Badulla District Secretary, he served as the Additional Secretary (Development) to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.
