A program to sensitize Deputy Census Commissioners, Assistant Census Commissioners and Quartermasters regarding the Economic Census 2025/26 (Agricultural Affairs) was held at the Badulla District Secretariat Auditorium this morning (01) under the patronage of Badulla District Secretary Prabath Abeywardena.

The field work of the Agricultural Census is planned to commence in September 2025 and information is to be collected based on the Grama Niladhari Divisions covering the entire island.

Census information will be collected by going into the relevant fields and conducting interviews with the farming community through questionnaires, while tablet computers and CAT technology will also be used to collect this information. The census is scheduled to take place on agricultural data such as the size of cultivated land, crops grown, animal husbandry, agricultural machinery and equipment, number of farmers, uncultivated lands, permanent and short-term crops, use of pesticides, etc.

Badulla Additional District Secretary Mrs. Nilanthi Samarawickrama, Divisional Secretaries, Assistant Divisional Secretaries and a group of accountants participated in this event.
